The cricket match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 9, 2024, was a heart-stopper! Played in Chandigarh, SRH won by just two runs in a close finish. This win was SRH’s third of the season and their first away from home.
SRH Batsmen Work Hard to Set a Target
SRH decided to bat first, but they lost their top three batsmen early on. This was a shaky start! But then, Abhishek Sharma (47 runs) and Aiden Markram (38 runs) played well and brought the innings back on track.
Other batsmen like Nicholas Pooran (29 runs) and Washington Sundar (22 runs not out) also chipped in with useful runs. Even though bowlers Arshdeep Singh (2 wickets) and Nathan Ellis (2 wickets) from PBKS took some good wickets, SRH managed to score a challenging total of 182 runs.
PBKS Fight Back After Early Setbacks
Chasing 182 runs is not easy, and PBKS also lost their top batsmen, Mayank Agarwal (4 runs) and Jonny Bairstow (12 runs), early. Things looked tough for them at 20 runs for 3 wickets! But then, Sikandar Raza (28 runs) and Sam Curran (29 runs) played a great partnership. They added 47 runs together and gave PBKS a fighting chance.
Close Finish with Last-Minute Drama!
The lower middle order of PBKS also did well. Shashank Singh (43 runs not out) and Ashutosh Sharma (34 runs not out) put on a fantastic show. They scored a quick 66 runs together in just 27 balls! They hit big sixes and boundaries, making everyone think PBKS might win.
SRH Holds On for a Narrow Victory
The last over bowled by Umran Malik of SRH was very tense. PBKS needed 11 runs to win. Shashank hit a boundary off the first ball, but then there were two dot balls. Ashutosh took a single off the third ball. Malik bowled a yorker on the fourth ball, and Ashutosh could only manage one run.
PBKS now needed just 3 runs from two balls. The tension was high! The fifth ball was another dot ball, and with two runs needed off the last ball, Shashank could only manage a single again. SRH won the match by a narrow margin of two runs!
Nitish Kumar Reddy – Player of the Match
Nitish Kumar Reddy, the wicket-keeper batsman for SRH, played a key role in the win. He caught well behind the stumps, putting pressure on PBKS batsmen. He also scored 23 runs with the bat, helping SRH reach a good total. Because of his all-around performance, he was deservedly named Player of the Match.
